Club Personnel Requirements & Certifications
This page outlines all the certifications and requirements of Club Personnel including Coaches, Staff, Board Members, Officials, and Volunteers. These certifications & requirements must be adhered to:
Club Requirements:
- ALL clubs must operate their programs under the direction of a certified coach or instructor.
- Individuals employed by member clubs as a coach/instructor must be identified in the member database as a ‘coach’.
- Clubs must pay WCB for their registered and paid coaches.
- Motor Boat Drivers must have their PCOC Card. CKBC regularly purchases a number of coupons for this program. Feel free to contact CKBC.
Board Members & Volunteers:
Officials Requirements:
- All Officials must provide a Criminal Record Check (CRC) every five years for those 19 years and older. The CKBC online code is MDMAXBCRKS. Should you not meet the criteria for an online submission; print and mail your CRC.
- CAC Safe Sport Training and/or Respect in Sport - Activity Leaders Training for level 2 and 3 risk levels, and the recommended completion of this training for level 1 risk levels.
- Respective Officiating Level I, II, III courses.

Coach and Instructor Requirements:
- Criminal Record Checks
- All coaches and instructors must provide a Criminal Record Check (CRC) every five years for those 19 years and older. Criminal Record Checks for volunteers can be processed from 12 years old and above. The CKBC online code is MDMAXBCRKS. Should you not meet the criteria for an online submission; print and mail your CRC.
- NCCP Certification
- Coaches/instructors must be certified under the National Coaching Certification Program where programming is available.
- Code of Conduct
- Safe Sport or Respect In Sport
- Making Ethical Decisions
Program Specific Requirements:
- Club Head Coach
- It is recommended that Head Coaches at member clubs have a minimum certification as an Competition Introduction (formerly: Entry Level Competitive Coach) or equivalent.
- Head Coaches representing clubs at National Championships MUST have a minimum of Competition Introduction (Entry Level Competitive Coaching) Certification.
- All war canoe captains must Comp Intro War Canoe Module Coach certified
- Head Coaches representing BC at Canada Games must be at minimum Competitive Development (Comp. Dev) certified.
- Club Coaches/Summer Camp Instructors
- Staff who are PAID and delivering summer camp progams at CKBC clubs must have completed:
- NCCP Community Initiation Coaching (CanoeKids) Course
- Making Ethical Decisions evaluation
- BC Games Coaches
- Head Coaches must have completed (at mimimum):
- Competition Introduction (Entry Level Competitive Coach) certification
- Making Ethical Decisions evaluation.
- Assistant Coaches must have completed (at minimum):
- Coaching for Community Sport (CanoeKids) Course
- Making Ethical Decisions evaluation.
