Most women and girls are not involved in sport programs, as 62% of Canadian girls under the age of 16 and <20% of Canadian women aged 16-63 participate in sport (Canadian Women Sport, 2020b). These statistics are the result of high sport dropout rates, as one in three girls leave sport in adolescence, compared to one in 10 boys (Canadian Women Sport, 2020b). As a result, girls and women have lower sport participation rates later in life, as men continue to participate at a higher rate across their lifetime.

Woman on Water (WOW) is a clinic offered through Canoe Kayak BC designed to increase female participation in paddling and empower participants on the water and in life.

The WOW clinic consists of on and off water lessons and activities including; technique, confidence building, fitness and health and overall knowledge of the sport directed specifically for females. Some of B.C.'s best coaches and top athletes attend. Athletes will be from all divisions, but paddling will focus on sprint training clinics for females aged 12 to 16 in all levels of ability. As this clinic grows, CKBC will offer specific discipline clinics around the province.
